As the way we work has changed significantly for many companies over the last few years, is that increasing the amount of proximity bias that comes into play?
If we have a choice to work in an office, remote or hybrid, will unconscious favoritism be given for those who leadership see, hear, and encounter more often than others?
Or taking this one step further, if everyone is remote, and your manager is in the same city, state, region as you’re in, will you have additional opportunities versus someone in another time zone, or part of the world, just due to the thought of feeling closer?
Maybe this is something you’ve felt or have even done yourself, without knowing it’s happening.
An intentional effort may be needed to help increase inclusion and belonging, which may not have been emphasized as much in the past.
