Maybe this scenario happens way too often:

You’re working on solving a particular problem and you stumble upon something else that you want to know why it works the way it does, or you’re seeing an issue with it.

Rather than taking a note of it and coming back to it later, which probably will never happen, you spend the next few hours looking into it.

Then realizing your original assignment is now that much farther behind.
