Next steps?

This is a tough one…

You interview a candidate that you’re unsure on moving forward with (or maybe you know that you won’t).

Then, either the candidate asks about the next steps, or you feel compelled to say something when the interview ends.

Something to the effect of “we’ll discuss the next steps and get back to you”.

Maybe, to ease the tension and end in good graces.

Giving the candidate hope he/she will be continuing the process, as generally, next steps are positive.

And then to find out the next steps never occur.

You may have said this yourself as an interviewer or have even been told this as an interviewee.
