Our good intentions

Remember during the 1st few project kick-off meetings, when the  direction was something like:

“Minimal customization, config 95%, code the last 5% only when we have to.”

Everyone agreed and the project begins.

Were you able to stay true to that?

Or did all those highly specified and complicated requirements start trickling in.

With the new thought: Config isn’t going to work (in this scenario), let’s make this 1 exception.

Then that 1 exception was no longer the exception, rather more the norm.

Post go-live, looking back at the finished product, the realization became:

“Maximum customization, code 95%, config the last 5%”.

At least we started the project with good intentions.
